SupportPay provides two ways to send online payments between parents. The option for sending online payments are:
- eCheck enables parents to directly connect their bank account to SupportPay and send payments to the other parent, funded from your bank account. SupportPay app uses the latest technology of Checkbook.io. to provide the convenience of bank to bank payment.
**Premium SupportPay subscriptions can send & receive funds while Forever Free SupportPay subscribers can only receive funds.**
- PayPal enables you to use your PayPal account to send payments to the other parents' PayPal account. However, PayPal will charge you 2.9% of the total amount you are sending plus an additional $0.30
In order to connect your bank account to SupportPay you need to do the following:
eCheck
- Click "eCheck" by clicking on your name in the top right and finding eCheck in the dropdown
- Click the "Register" button
- Accept the Terms and Conditions
- Search for your bank account
- Enter your login credentials
Automatic Verification
If your bank accepts automatic verification, then your login information will be used and you will be automatically verified
Many banks have different requirements for verification so you may need to provide your phone number, which is the same phone number tied to your bank, and you will receive a text message verification. Depending on your banking institutions the verification process may be slightly different
Once you are verified you need to invite the other parent to register for eCheck so that you are able to send/receive payments between each other.
If your bank is unable to automatically verify you, you may need to go through the Microdeposit Verification Process.
Micro Deposit Verification
eCheck, aka Checkbook.io, will make 2 micro-deposits into your bank account. Once you receive the micro-deposits you will need to enter the amounts in your SupportPay app under the eCheck section.
Invite the Other Parent
In order for bank to bank payments, both parents need to register with eCheck.
You can send the other parent an invite via your SupportPay app by clicking the "Invite other parent" button.
You can see the current status of your registration, along with the other parents' registration by going to the eCheck section in User Management, in SupportPay app, or Settings, in SupportPay's Mobile app.
Send a Payment
Once both parents have registered with eCheck and have verified their accounts, either through instant verification or manual verification with micro-deposits, both parties are ready to send and receive electronic check payments.
eCheck Payment Processing Time
Once payment has been submitted to the other parent, the funds will be withdrawn from the sender's bank account within 3 business days.
It will then take up to 7 additional days to process the payment and deposit the funds into the other parents' account. This payment processing time is completely dependent on your banking provider and the banking provider of the other parent.
Therefore, the total processing time for funds to be taken from the senders account and deposited into the other parties' account can take up to 10 business days to be processed and deposited.
Please note: The processing time is dependent on the data provided by both parties. If the recipient provides incorrect information the transfer process time may be longer. However, this will only occur during the 1st transaction, as any additional payments will use the same information.
Those users that want to utilize Checkbook/eCheck, must have a US-based bank in order to make a payment and/or receive a payment. No International payment at this time.
SupportPay does not have any control over the payment processing time.
Canceling an eCheck payment
If you wish to cancel a payment you can do so up to 48 hours after submitting the payment. In order to cancel a payment please send an email to help@supportpay.com. In the future, we will add the ability to cancel a payment directly in the application. Depending on the time that has elapsed between the time the payment was started and the request for cancellation it may take up to 10 business days to redeposit the funds into the sender's account.
PayPal
In order to protect your bank account information, the way we have it set up today is that you can schedule and set up automatic payments via PayPal.
If you use your PayPal account, you would connect your bank account information to PayPal and it can send the payments to the other parent to their PayPal account. There is no charge for this and you won’t be charged any PayPal fees.
You can find the directions for PayPal set up on SupportPay by visiting the SupportPay PayPal Instructions
